What's the difference between Brushed and Brushless motors?
Brushed motors are much cheaper to produce than brushless motors. Hence, Less expensive. However, as a result of the loss of heat generated by the brushed motor there is a higher energy waste which has an effect on its efficiency.
Brushless motors are generally more expensive than their brushed counterparts due to their more complex design, However overall efficiency is much higher which results in more power and longer run times. Required maintenance is also minimal as there are no brushes to wear out, Meaning their overall lifespan is much longer.
Both types of motors definitely have their place in RC models though. For example: If you want to keep costs down and are not worried about all out speed, brushed motors are perfectly capable. Whereas if you're a racer or basher that wants blistering performace which can match and even exceed that of a fuel driven engine, with much less agro then brushless motors are what you need!
