lt;pgt;The class 35 diesel locomotives were built between 1961 and 1964 for the western region of the BR by Bayer Peacock. These locomotives were given the nick name of the "Hymek" due to it being a hybrid diesel locomotive with Mekyrdo transmission (Hy-Mek). These locomotives were mostly used for passenger services but were used for and freight stock on the odd occasion. These locomotives were replaced by the larger class 52 (Western) however there are a few still in preservation.lt;/pgt;
