The 1988 Bathurst 1000 was a memorable race for many reasons. Not least was the outstanding performance of Klaus Niedzwiedz to put the ANZ Sierra on top in the Toohey's Dozen run off, ahead of the favourite and eventual racer winner Tony Longhurst. Sadly, the number 9 Sierra failed to finish the race, but the pace of the shootout lap, with the Sierra spitting flames across the top of the mountain as it danced down past skyline lives on.
