The MkI Golf took the market by storm when it hit showrooms in 1976, but it's the later MkII which set the standard for what was to come. Although bulkier than its predecessor, it came to be known as the ‘grown up’ hot hatchback - more powerful and sophisticated with its the feisty 1.8-litre engine, yet still offering a fun drive in a s porty yet understated body.
This 1/10 scale high quality Tamiya Golf GTI MKII rally car kit (58714) comes with lightweight polycarbonate body, authentic stickers, separately moulded plastic light cases, bumper, and side mirrors AND includes 540 Torque Tuned motor and ESC. Its release marks a return to the hot hatch madness of the 1980s, during which time the iconic Volkswagen Golf became a clear favourite. It has been faithfully recreated as the champion of the A7 class competition 1986 global rally race, a model which was powered by a 1,781cc inline 4-cylinder 4-stroke gasoline engine capable of 195hp.
Based around a tough monocoque frame with integrated gearboxes, this compact 4WD MF-01X c hassis gives a thrilling drive whether you take it on road or flat dirt surfaces, thank s to friction dampers employed by the 4-wheel independent double wishbone suspension. It features a rear-mounted motor, with gear-driven rear wheels and a propeller shaft taking power to the front. Both front and rear gearboxes have differential gears and the battery pack location in the chassis centre ensures outstanding balance. Measuring 397mm in length, 170mm wide and 142mm high, this model has an L-size wheelbase of 239mm.
With Polycarbonate light cases fully compatible with separately sold 5mm LEDs, now you can achieve an extra level of authenticity and light up the rally track in more ways than one.
All you need to get this stunning recreation up and running is a 2-channel radio, steering servo, 7.2 volt battery with compatible charger and Tamiya PS paint .
